P-TEX Filling Gun

A P-Tex filling gun (or base repair pistol) is a hot-melt tool used to repair gouges, scratches, and core shots in ski and snowboard bases.

How It Works

  • Heating: It melts specialized polyethylene (P-Tex) rods at high temperatures (typically around 195°C / 380°F–440°F).
  • Application: A flat-headed nozzle allows you to iron and extrude the molten material directly into the damaged base.
  • Durability: Unlike traditional drip candles (which use an open flame and can leave soot or carbon carbonize the P-Tex), a repair gun creates a stronger, longer-lasting thermal bond with the ski base.
